Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Maintenance Mechanic duties. I am skilled in installing and repairing mechanical systems or related structures. I can operate vehicles up to 3-ton capacity. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, hoists and performs work in hard to reach places. Required to stand, push, pull, reach, walk, crawl, knee, bend and climb for periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh over 60 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, subject to quick changes in temperatures from extreme heat and humidity to sub-zero outside temperatures. Exposed to toxic chemicals, asbestos, acids, dirt, dust, grease and biological hazards associated with a health care facility. Subject to possibility of broken bones, electrical burns and electrical shock. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. To prevent personal injury, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing may be required when working in confined spaces and hazardous work areas.
