Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
- Ability to Supervise (Screen Out Element): I assist with planning and organizing work activities for employees. Examples Include: Advise supervisor of problems involving disciplinary actions and counseling on conduct. Set goals and deadlines for accomplishing work. Provide instructions to employees on work procedures and safety.
Physical Effort: Performs moderate to heavy lifting (up to 40 pounds, requesting assistance for those items weighing more than 40 pounds). Moves and position materiel by hand or hand truck. Heavier and bulky/unwieldy materiel is moved by materials handling equipment, or with the assistance of coworkers. Work requires standing and/or walking for lengthy periods of time and often requires bending, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling materiel.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a warehouse environment or in outside work areas on a year-round basis. May work in a congested mechanized automated environment with constant movement of conveyors and materials handling equipment. May be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling equipment. Subject to hazards involved in working near moving equipment such as conveyors, tow-line systems, and materials handling equipment. In addition, may also be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working with hazardous materials, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. SAFETY AND HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area assigned, as directed by the supervisor. Types of required protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: eye, respiratory, and foot protection, protective clothing (gloves apron, coveralls, etc.). Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. Employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audiometric test will be conducted, as necessary, when working near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery, or equipment.
